25th Anniversary Edition Star Trek Chess BOARD ONLY

This Star Trek chess board was produced by Franklin Mint in honor of Star Trek's 25th anniversary in 1991.

The chessboard is modeled in a (sixties) modernist style in aluminum color and also contains a velvet lined storage place for the playing pieces. On each side of the game is a Star Trek badge with "25 Anniversary Edition". The playing field consists of a glass plate of tempered glass that floats about 2 cm above a blue background with galaxies, creating a beautiful 3D depth effect. At the time, the game pieces had to be bought separately and were individually accompanied by a small booklet with background information about each piece / crew member.

As optional extras, one could purchase a table / stand on which the game could be placed. In addition, a separate wall display could also be purchased on which all game pieces can be displayed for decoration. However, these last 2 options are extra rare and expensive. The set was released in 1991, but produced in 1989.
